Mike spent so much time testing Ferraris that he did not really use his own cars very much, other than for commuting between Modena and Maranello or for driving to and from the U.K. When he went out to Italy in 1963 he drove there in his navy-blue Mini Cooper. A few years later this was replaced by a Rally Imp (having helped to design and develop it he really had to have one). For a short time he owned a Silver Ferrari 275 GTB and then an Alfa Romeo 1600 GT. On one of his racing trips to France he discovered a 1952 vintage Bentley Mk VI, in need of total restoration. He bought it, had it transported to Modena, and then lovingly and painstakingly restored it, procuring the necessary parts and getting the interior totally reupholstered in new leather. It was kept in a garage near Maranello and taken out for “Sunday drives”. His last “working car” was a Lancia Beta Coupe.
